A Walt Disney Production model sheet from The Jungle Book, 1967.
Based on the classic book by Rudyard Kipling, Walt Disney's 1967 animated production The Jungle Book was the last film to be produced by him, as he died during its production. Consequently, the film has become an iconic favourite for Disney fans, supported by its heart-warming plot and magical music numbers. Initially, it was Disney's second-highest grossing animated film and it has since seen a number of re-runs and adaptations including live-action remakes in 1994 and 2016. Today, the original animated film, made from this model sheet, remains as heartening and joyful as it did over 50 years ago, with songs like 'The Bare Necessities' conjuring iconic scenes and lines within everyone.
This authentic model sheet from the film's production would have been used by animators at Walt Disney Studios for the character of King Louie. Essential for maintaining consistent character appearance throughout many levels of production and protecting the secrets of Disney's cutting-edge animation, it is unsurprising that model sheets were prohibited from removal from Walt Disney Studios!
