Collected by celebrities including Sir Elton John, Sting and Boy George, the art of Illuminati Neon (aka Mark Sloper) is influenced by the punk movement of the 1970s and 80s.
This regal artwork has incorporated a genuine vintage flag from the UK’s Royal Palaces, which Mark sourced from a historian on London’s Portobello Road. The neon typography was crafted using a centuries-old technique, whereby the glass is bent under a temperature of 500˚C and compressed gas within the powder-coated tubes is ignited to produce an organic glow.
Mark says: “As a child, a visit to London meant a visit to Buckingham Palace. I loved the Trooping of the Colour for the Queen’s birthday, and the raising of the flags. ‘Queen in residence’ appears on the flag to symbolise her sitting inside the palace, drinking her beloved gin martinis (no lemon). It’s like having a piece of the Crown in your own front room.”
A variation of this artwork is owned by Sir Elton John. Discover the full collection here.
