With vibrant abstract and impressionist influences, metropolitan living is at the centre of Paul Kenton’s dynamic new collection. The new artworks spotlight the unmistakeable markers of New York and London in Kenton’s distinctive style.
Guided by his love of global adventure, exploration and discovery, ‘Skyline Splendour’ is a direct recreation of an inspiration moment Kenton experienced when travelling. Drawing in the eye to a prominent figure, in this case that an architectural landmark, the artist immerses the viewer amongst those in the scene; we become part of the landscape.
The original artwork was painted on sheets of brass and by leaving parts of the brass exposed, Kenton has been able to pull through warm, orange tones to replicate the precious golden hour.
Through his use of rich colours and raw textures, Kenton captures the contemporary allure yet underlying intensity of urban life, implying the sounds, smells and atmosphere that surround the scene.
Characteristic of his cityscapes, the artist uses contrast in light to capture the energetic pulse and pace of these bustling metropolises. He often creates this contrast through heavy impasto painting, a technique that involves applying thick layers of paint that hold the imprint of an artist’s brush or, in the case of Kenton, palette knife. This creates a three-dimensional texture in the original artworks.
Light is one of the most striking influences for Kenton in these moments and he tries to accurately capture this element in his art, saying, “When I paint, I am always thinking about the light and how it interacts with the buildings.”

An original work of art is a one-off piece, which is made by the artist themselves, in case by Paul Kenton. When you buy an original piece of work, it comes with the knowledge that you own something incredibly special; almost a piece of the creator themselves.
Paul Kenton is a UK-based contemporary artist, acclaimed for his cityscape paintings which capture the unique energy of cities across the world. Paul’s paintings aim to transport the viewer, giving them a sense of the distinctive mood, pace and light of a scene, through layers of bold colour, dripped lines and gestural paint marks. Kenton is constantly exploring new ideas for paintings in his sketchbook, painting en plein air, drawing not only from cityscapes, but also from his fascination with motorsport, the sea and pop culture.
