Richard Rowan’s incredible artistry comes to Castle Fine Art once again with more stunning mixed media artworks in the Forever More collection based on his love of the Finnish wilderness. With his previous Forever More collection selling out in just half an hour, we don’t expect these beautifully detailed paintings to be around for long.

In a fusion of a print and an original, a monochromatic silhouette has been printed onto the glass and then returned to Richard’s skilled hands to paint he intricate background layers. The result is a breathtaking series of artworks that beautifully showcase the ever-changing splendour of various seasons and timeless moments within the same captivating setting. Richard aims to allow collectors to escape from everyday life, and these atmospheric scenes act as a reminder to us all that no matter where you are, there is always growth and change.

The acclaimed artist has created the second instalment of unique original artwork that transforms a singular, pre-existing foreground with different hand-painted skies. Utterly transforming each scene with new colours so that they evoke different times of the year and day, every piece creates an opportunity for collectors to acquire a new type of original work from Richard.

On each of Richard's originals and uniques artworks is a transparent viewing panel to allow collectors to see the process behind their creation.

Richard worked meticulously to add this hand-painted background that preserves vibrant shades of oil beneath the layers, before piercing through them to add depth and texture. The intricate and atmospheric original created in layers becomes a beautiful masterpiece and a pop of colour in any space.

Being at the forefront of his technique, Richard Rowan’s artworks are detailed with his characteristic photographic realism, illustrating the power of nature. The landscapes are reverse painted in layers on to the glass, which allows him to achieve the microscopic detail and preserve the vibrant colours.

About Richard

Richard's landscapes are so detailed that they are often mistaken for photographs, when in fact each one has been meticulously painted by hand using his reverse painting technique. As the only fine artist successfully creating artworks in this style, Richard has become a part of the history and legacy of the glass art form, which dates back to Roman times and can also be seen in the Gothic period of the 12th century.

Unlike canvas, glass interacts with the light, bringing the painting to life. Changing the lights and ambience in your room will create different effects, echoing the transformative power of natural phenomena like the northern lights, sunrise and lightning. The exhilarating unpredictability of nature has taken Richard around the world. His Aurora Borealis collection saw him travel to Iceland, where, accompanied by a local photographer and filmmaker, he drove out into the wild terrains to capture the wide skies, shooting rays, magical glow and hypnotic dancing of light.

Closer to home, he explores the British landscape with his wife and two children, who are often symbolised in his paintings by four birds or stars. Through each artwork, he hopes to make viewers feel alive and want to "roam the land, fly in the sky, search for the stars.”

The New Scene of Landscape Art

Landscape is a truly enduring theme in art. It can be seen hanging on the walls of art novices, established collectors and just about everyone in between in some form. Whether it’s a painting, a print or a photograph, landscape art is not just a reflection of the world around us, but a deeply personal and emotional expression of how we connect with nature.

Material world: how an artist’s medium reveals hidden meanings

From animals in formaldehyde to COVID antigen tests, artists have used weird and wonderful materials to create art throughout history. Ancient civilisations would adorn themselves with animal bones, and many modern artists are incorporating recycled materials into their work to support environmentalism.
