What happens when you mix graffiti murals with Mickey Mouse?

Following his successful 2021 collection In the Empty Spaces, "the creative floodgates have opened" for Dan Lane who has now cultivated his graffiti style through an incredible exploration into Disney characters. He has challenged himself artistically and technically to not only combine the dark macabre themes of his art with the soft, innocent imagery of Disney, but also the striking two-dimensional art form of graffiti with his love of sculpture.

From crushed glass backgrounds and live-casting his Modern Relics sculptures, to entirely new artistic processes in order to create 3D graffiti, Dan's striking artworks are as technically impressive as they are visually. You can view and learn more about the wide range of Dan's artworks below including a brand new Modern Relics sculpture titled 'A Delicate Balance'. There is also an opportunity to match the edition size of this contemporary nod to the Baroque with the previous sculpture 'When All Is Equal'; get in touch with one of our Fine Art consultants to find out more.

Featured art (L-R): 'Aw, Phooey!' & 'Mouse In Da House'. Hand-varnished boxed canvases, £795.

"What if Bernini was around today?"

-Dan Lane

Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680) was an Italian sculptor who spearheaded the Baroque movement. More dynamic and ornate than the classical movement, Baroque sculptures - like Bernini's- were often theatrical and emotional whilst remaining incredibly true to life in their depiction of anatomy, nature and fabric. An avid fan of this sculptor and his immensely beautiful and historically significant work is Dan Lane.

Working first as an engineer before he turned his hands to art, Dan’s sculptures often combine realistic aspects of nature, like orchids and butterflies, with mechanical components; creating a radical commentary on the relationship between humans and the natural world. One of the ways in which he does this is harnessing the complex realism of the Baroque movement and interpreting it through his style; creating a masterpiece that, the artist believes, is evocative of what Bernini would create in the 21st century.

His beautiful arm sculptures, like ‘A Delicate Balance’, give the impression that they have come detached from an ancient masterpiece like the limbless sculptures who line the galleries of Italy and famous museums around the world. But, now the ancient marble has been replaced with stainless steel and carved by Dan to display intricate 3D tattoos that emerge out of the arm like aspects of nature; perfectly complementing the meticulous steel butterfly perching, as if weightless, on the fingers of the piece.

Preceding this piece is the equally majestic ‘When All is Equal’; a poignant sculpture that is like the other missing arm to a mysterious baroque figure. It features an ethereal hummingbird that appears to perch on the cherry blossom tattoo that grows up the arm like a branch. Previous collectors of this sculpture have the opportunity to match the edition size of their piece with that of ‘A Delicate Balance’; you can get in touch with one of our Fine Art Consultants for more information.
