Our artists on screen

From Hollywood to reality TV, our art is not only admired by our collectors, but it has also caught the attention of the film and television world. Find out how artists like Billy Connolly, Lorenzo Quinn and John Myatt are taking over our screens!

Billy Connolly’s art hits TV screens

Throughout his successful career, Billy Connolly has appeared in Hollywood films such as A Series of Unfortunate Events and Mrs Brown. In December 2020, he was the star of the ITV documentary Billy Connolly: It's Been a Pleasure, in which he revealed how his Born On A Rainy Day collection has given him "a new lease of life".

Billy told cameras: "I managed to get pictures together and people like them, which surprises me and amazes and delights me. It's a lovely thing to do with yourself."

Robert Oxley steals scenes on Grand Designs

Robert's now sold-out 'Mufasa' artwork took centre stage on the colossal chimney breast of Amye and Nathan's cathedral-style Lincolnshire home in this January 2021 episode of Grand Designs

Robert told us: “It’s so fantastic that my art was on Channel 4, especially as it’s in someone’s home – so it means a lot to them, and this means a lot to me. I even went out and bought a new television!

"It’s great to have this recognition, and hopefully it will lead to more exciting things. I was just hoping the presenter (Kevin McCloud) wouldn’t ‘diss’ it – he’s always got a sarcastic comment about everything!”

Lorenzo Quinn features in Sky Atlantic’s Riviera

Standing at over three metres tall, Lorenzo Quinn’s ‘Gravity’ sculpture caught the attention of Oscar-winning writer Neil Jordan, who also created the Sky Atlantic show Riviera.

Set in the south of France, the programme follows the turbulent lives of the rich and famous. Lorenzo’s sculpture – which signifies the need for balance in life – was the perfect contrast for the spectacular parties held in the grounds of a French businessman’s mansion.

Speaking on the piece, Lorenzo says: “It is essential to find a balance in life. Many times, that balance is achieved with the help of the people who surround us and that hold us firmly to the ground, and without whom we would float into perdition.”

John Myatt: criminal to Hollywood inspiration

Becoming embroiled in what Scotland Yard termed the ‘biggest art fraud of the 20th century’ led to a star appearance on BBC’s Fake or Fortune for John Myatt. Lending his knowledge as an art forgery expert, John worked with the programme to delve into the fraud case of Sir William Nicholson, whose fake still-life painting was purchased for an eye-watering £165,000.

So extraordinary is John's story that a Hollywood film is currently in the pipelines! We can't reveal anything more just yet, so make sure you keep an eye on our blog for more updates.

TV stars visit our galleries nationwide!

In 2018, our Manchester gallery was featured on ITVBe’s The Real Housewives of Cheshire. The show’s glamorous cast – including Christine McGuiness – browsed artworks by Paul Kenton, Bob Dylan and Scarlett Raven.

And they're not the only gallery to have welcomed a celebrity guestlist! In 2019, our state-of-the-art South Molton Street gallery in London opened its doors for the launch of the celestial Afterglow collection by Emma-Leone Palmer. In attendance was the TV presenter Ben Shephard, with the artist's work also praised by the interior design expert Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.
