With his new Windswept & Interesting autobiography one of 2021's most popular reads, Christmas was the perfect time to reveal the winter collection by the best-loved comedian Billy Connolly. Exclusively available as a set of two, the hand-signed giclée prints feature heartwarming scenes, including a family with a Christmas tree and the Three Wise Men bearing gifts.
After retiring from stand-up comedy in 2020, the BAFTA Award-winning actor has concentrated on his artistic career, with The Observer calling him a 'celebrated artist'. Featuring festive shades of red and green and jewel tones of blue and purple, the limited edition artworks are printed on a 100% cotton paper and framed in a sustainable pine and spruce frame. Straight from the mind of Billy - who has previously joked about singing 'Christmas Day in the Morning' while dancing in the nude - they are a touching way to enjoy comedy with loved ones any time of the year.
As the latest release from his popular Born On A Rainy Day series, Billy's Christmas editions were inspired by the theme of family. The artist, who creates and signs his artworks at his studio in the Florida Keys, wanted to create something that felt authentic. He explains: “I don’t like the idea of sitting down and doing a Christmas design. It’s like doing a Christmas song, or Christmas things for commercial reasons – it’s kind of naff. So I didn’t want to do Christmas, per se, it was from something else. I do like it. The more I see it, the more I like it.”
Billy has returned to stylised, detailed lines after the more cartoon-like Teddy Boys from his Windswept & Interesting collection. As always, he has weaved in his own experiences to create two collectible graphics that reveal elements of his life journey. Talking about 'The Find', he says: "They are the three Magi following the star, bringing presents for the baby. At the time I was in Canada, and there was a big fuss about Halley’s Comet coming over. It was around for ages, just hanging in the sky. They say that it orbits over thousands of years, and I remember thinking, ‘I wonder if it’s the Star of Bethlehem?’. The people looked up and saw this thing in the sky, and said 'It’s got to be magic.'"

This exclusive set would make a wonderful gift for any fan of Billy's comedy routines, particularly as Christmas is a subject he has touched upon in some of his best-known sketches. In his hilarious 'Dinner at the Posh House' sketch from his 1997 Two Night Stand tour, Billy relives a Christmas dinner he attended with his wife Pamela at the sprawling home of “super toffs” in Yorkshire, England. Dressed in a bow-tie, he is greeted with an eclectic banquet of Chinese food and Yorkshire puddings, eventually succumbing to the temptation of a green alcoholic potion known only as ‘Snake Eye’. Navigating his way through tortuous small-talk with a professional tobogganist and a host who definitely knows him from somewhere, Billy enjoys a very special Christmas.
