The witty Whatshisname brings us a series of out-of-this-world sculptures of dancing spacemen in the new One Small Step collection, plus exciting new additions to the Gone Series.
Featured Art (L-R): One Small Step: En Pointe, One Small Step: Lift Off and One Small Step: Together. These limited-editions sculptures are hand-signed by Whatshisname.
After sending a sculpture of a breakdancing astronaut into space last year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Moon landings, Whatshisname - real name Sebastian Burdon – brings us a new collection of dancing spaceman sculptures in the One Small Step collection. His gallery in space, the Art Above Earth exhibition, was a sensation, and the astronaut sent into space has inspired him to create even more. “I chose the topic of astronauts because of my ongoing fascination with space and the new discoveries of the James Webb space telescope,” the artist explains.
Whatshisname brings more characters to his emotional Gone Series of limited editions, showing our childhood favourites fading into the distance. The common link that connects the Gone series is the choice of iconic characters that are a rich source of inspiration to Whatshisname.
Memorable and much-loved characters like Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion and Toto offer Whatshisname the creative opportunity to bring a contemporary perspective to these familiar characters. The story of self-discovery and the search for home resonates deeply with Whatshisname and his many collectors.
