Based on real children’s teddies, Humphries introduces his take on the emerging artistic trend featuring classic toys with his new Party Animals collection.
Each character has found itself involved in a real-life celebration. Decorated with novelty hats and the aftermath of party poppers, the toys have a sparkle in their eyes as they look to us to explain how they became a guest at the party happening around them.
This curiosity is revealed through individual micro expressions, the slight tilt of a head, a raised eyebrow, a subtle smile. It’s this nostalgic warmth, safety and emotional connection that Humphries expertly creates by injecting animated expression into his still life subjects, whilst prompting us to reflect on memories, growth and the passage of time.
Painting in the style of the old masters, he applies thicker layers of oil paints and uses glazing and scumbling techniques to achieve rich textures, deep colours, and subtle tonal variations. The interplay of form, colour, shadow and light enhances the lifelike quality of the characters, whilst Humphries’ recognisable composition and vignette border bring a maturity and refinement to each piece.

This artwork is an original. An original work of art is a one-off piece which is made by the artist themselves and there is only ever one of these pieces available. When you buy an original piece of work, it comes with the knowledge that you own something incredibly special; almost a piece of the creator themselves, and when you purchase an original, it makes for an incredibly personal experience.
Recreating a child's enjoyment of creating their own adventures with figurines and imagination, Nigel's artworks allow us to revisit the awe and wonder of our younger years. His adorable miniature paintings capture some of the world's most iconic characters, from Marvel and DC Comics superheroes to real-life music stars and the cast of the Star Wars saga.
In 1995, we opened our first-ever gallery in Stratford-upon-Avon. With just one goal in mind - to make our art accessible to all - our fledgling company began to spread its roots.
Every piece of art is mounted, glazed or framed by hand, with our bespoke framing service selected by our creative department.
Our foundations are built on a passion for art, and many of our staff (and collectors!) have been with us from the very beginning.
