With Moroccan pigments and Vietnamese paints, Mazzucco’s pieces are characterised by the juxtaposition between wildlife and cultural photography, this incredible piece forms part of his introspective collection Grass Roots 2023. “Kumbusu (Sunkissed)” features photography taken in Kenya, Africa mainly in sepia earthy tones, enhancing the raw beauty of the images. The piece tells a story in layers. The overlaying of photography, paint, handwriting, and resin adds life into the composition, creating a statement original. The pops of colour added sporadically throughout the composition create the spontaneous dynamic that this wildlife piece represents. The use of different images sizes and its repetition create the intrinsic depth, characteristic of Mazzucco’s originals.
This piece is part of “Grass Roots”, still containing sepia and earthy tones but introducing a new colour palette to Mazzucco’s existing style. The extension of colours is referent to the vibrant colourful pieces with the Amazon scenes, introducing a new exotic colour palette as opposed to the beauty of Africa in sepia tones. By embarking on immersive trips, Mazzucco is able to evoke the cultural beauty and the natural colours of the environments he is in, capturing moments in time and living landscapes. The mesmerising photography has come from Kenya in Africa and the Amazon Forest on the Rio Negro in Brazil. The sell-out artist and international photographer, is creatively spontaneous and while everything is experimental, it’s also very controlled as to never sacrifice the beauty and composition of the image.
Mazzucco’s visual narrative captures the human form against a backdrop of startling landscapes that span the continents, from Icelandic glaciers to African and Brazilian wildlife. By layering paint, photography, resin and hand-lettered text, the globally acclaimed photographer and sell-out artist takes viewers on a documentary-style journey through geographic and emotional terrains. “Beauty layered with natural elements has always been my recipe. Nothing we create can compare to the perfect beauty of nature.”

Canadian-born artist Raphael Mazzucco's visual narrative captures the human form against a backdrop of startling landscapes that span the continents, from Icelandic glaciers to African wildlife and Vietnamese rice paddies. By layering paint, photography, and hand-lettered text, Raphael takes viewers on a documentary-style journey through geographic and emotional terrains.
His work layers photography with text and natural elements such as flowers and leaves, and Raphael’s pieces spring from lengthy expeditions where he lives and breathes his subjects. Raphael’s working life actually began as a footballer in Canada and England; something which he credits with giving him the drive to become successful in the next stage of his life. After being shot by iconic photographer Bruce Weber for a Calvin Klein campaign, Raphael developed an interest in the art form and left sport behind.
Raphael Mazzucco's new collection of original artwork, Motherland, draws from his own experiences and memories travelling deep into Northern British Columbia last August with his brother. From the lush forests of Yoho National Park to the jagged peaks of Mount Robson, each piece in this collection serves as a love letter to the diverse landscapes of Mazzucco’s native land.
