A pioneer of reverse painting on glass Richard Rowan has created an atmospheric scene that allows us to escape from everyday life and take notice of the changing possibilities of nature. The sky takes full stage, framed by the detailed silhouette of the mountains with an incredible gradience of colour and depth.
While working on this collection of unique artworks, Rowan listened to August Wilhelmsson’s album "Transfixed,” which profoundly influenced the ambiance of the pieces.
Produced in high-quality giclée on glass, Rowan's silhouetted foreground has been reverse printed in layers onto glass, perfectly reflecting the incredible techniques used in his original artwork, and returned to his London studio. Rowan has meticulously hand-painted each vista using his reverse painted layering technique, often involving several coatings of paint to be applied, taken away, and built in complex blended layers to create a completely unique image with incredible depth and photorealism.

An original work of art is a one-off piece - painting, sculpture, mixed media - which is made by the artist themselves. When you buy an original piece of work, it comes with the knowledge that you own something incredibly special; almost a piece of the creator themselves. A limited edition is a translation of an original piece and there is a fixed number of these made. The piece will be signed by the artist, and the edition number will show you which number in the series you have purchased. Read more about the different types of art we sell here.
We do offer an installation service should you need assistance. You can contact our art consultants for further information here. Please note that this is currently only available in mainland UK.

The artwork is hand-signed by Richard Rowan.
Produced as a premium giclée, Rowan’s silhouetted foreground has been reverse-printed onto glass in layers, perfectly reflecting the incredible techniques used in his original artwork. In his London studio, Rowan then meticulously hand-painted each vista using his reverse painted layering technique. These unique artworks blend giclée-printed foregrounds with individually hand-painted backgrounds.
Each of Richard's unique artworks includes a transparent viewing panel to allow collectors to see the detailed process behind their creation. The result is a collection of completely unique, hand-painted, mixed media artworks that trail a beautiful spectrum of times of day, climates and natural spectacles.
The ground-breaking contemporary glass painter meticulously paints by hand in oils on the opposite side of the glass. Building layers in reverse, starting with the foreground and finer details before working in several layers to the background, is a technique Richard has trailblazed for over 15 years.
From the Icelandic wilderness to the fiery horizons of Thailand and towering mountains of Norway to spectacular Scotland, his atmospheric scenes allow viewers to escape from everyday life, creating a sense of intrigue in any living space. Richard is the only artist to be creating art in this style, and his incredible landscapes are so detailed that they are often mistaken for photographs, when in fact each one has been meticulously painted by hand using his reverse painting technique.
As the only fine artist successfully creating artworks in this style, Richard has become a part of the history of the glass art form, which dates back to Roman times and can also be seen in the Gothic period. Unlike canvas, glass interacts with the light, bringing his works to sparkling life.
In 1995, we opened our first-ever gallery in Stratford-upon-Avon. With just one goal in mind - to make our art accessible to all - our fledgling company began to spread its roots.
Every piece of art is mounted, glazed or framed by hand, with our bespoke framing service selected by our creative department.
Our foundations are built on a passion for art, and many of our staff (and collectors!) have been with us from the very beginning.
