As one of our most popular artists and master of animal portraiture, artwork by Robert Oxley is as rare as the endangered animals that he paints.
The artist started his new collection with the colour green, explaining that the human eye can distinguish more shades of green than any other colour, perhaps an evolutionary hangover from our hunter gatherer days. He was also deeply fascinated with the idea of camouflage and the way in which evolution has gifted animals the tool of disguise to be able to survive. Painting the big cats in striking greens, Oxley’s patterns mimic their natural habitats, allowing these majestic animals to blend into the wild tapestry of nature and showcase their natural ability to become one with their environment, while their stalking pose reminds us of the untamed elegance of big cats.
Named after the herb known for its soft and calming greyish-green leaves, in this boutique edition “Sage”, the traditional colours of a leopard are overthrown by exciting shades green, transforming the animal into an “ethereal, astral” being through his kaleidoscopic use of colour and form. Many of Oxley’s pieces skilfully blend elements of surrealism and expressionism, infusing each piece with energy and emotion. His expressive brushwork is energetic and fluid, giving his paintings a sense of movement and spontaneity as his captivating portraits feature wild animals created through intense patterns and psychedelic colour.
This loose style adds to the emotional impact of his artwork, giving life and movement to the leopard in a stalking pose, while contrasting with the fixed stare of the eyes. His ability to capture the essence and character of the animals he paints in unmatched, creating an enchanting visual experience that celebrates the beauty, power, and mystique of the animals we share the planet with.

As a child, Robert Oxley spent his hours roaming the forests around a north-east coalmining village, dreaming of becoming a zookeeper. Today, the lions, tigers and elephants who roamed his imagination are given life in his dazzling wildlife paintings. Immersing himself in pop surrealism, Oxley presents viewers with what he calls “psychedelic natural history”.
Oxley’s affinity with nature is evident in every instinctive brushstroke. He began his art career by painting his school friend’s denim jackets with the logos of their favourite heavy metal bands. This rock ‘n’ roll ethos can be seen in his art, with its loose paintwork and free attitude, which makes it so popular with his many collectors.
In 1995, we opened our first-ever gallery in Stratford-upon-Avon. With just one goal in mind - to make our art accessible to all - our fledgling company began to spread its roots.
Every piece of art is mounted, glazed or framed by hand, with our bespoke framing service selected by our creative department.
