Bob’s nostalgic artworks are popular with our collectors around the world, thanks to their timeless charm. Using a muted colour palette that draws attention to the unfolding narrative, the Yorkshire-based painter adds layers of glaze in a style influenced by the Old Masters of the Renaissance.
For this piece, Bob used a technique called scumbling, which involved layering a light opaque paint over a darker background to create a soft, romantic feel.
Bob says: “Multiple layers of subtle tones build up an optical vibration that creates the effect of hazy light filtering through the tree, highlighting the water and foreground walls. This frames the two magpies, which are in sharp relief to the couple strolling into the mist.”

Inspired by the Yorkshire mill towns that shaped his youth, Bob is known for his ‘Northern Impressionism’ style. Depicting touching childhood, family and romantic scenes, his nostalgic artworks feature a neutral palette of greys and browns with splashes of vibrant colour and a unique inner glow created by the manipulation of light and shadow.
In 1995, we opened our first-ever gallery in Stratford-upon-Avon. With just one goal in mind - to make our art accessible to all - our fledgling company began to spread its roots.
Every piece of art is mounted, glazed or framed by hand, with our bespoke framing service selected by our creative department.
Our foundations are built on a passion for art, and many of our staff (and collectors!) have been with us from the very beginning.
