From the Beatles to the Royal Albert Dock, Liverpool is celebrated for its historically rich culture. So there was no better place for French artist Frédéric Daty to debut his thought-provoking new collection, Ombres de Ville.
Translated as 'shadows of the city', the body of work was revealed at our gallery in the city's legendary Church Alley, where guests had the opportunity to learn more about Frédéric's inspirations and techniques. Inspired by the intrinsic energy and life force of cities, the body of work aims to evoke feelings of nostalgia and modernity by depicting icons synonymous with the area.
The artist is particularly fascinated by the role of light and shadow in creating volume and perspective and his choice of the raw, primal medium of bronze reflects his desire to portray "duality in a hallucinatory world".
He explains: "My goal is to interpret reality and break it down into fundamental pieces. The light animates the metal and plays with it, depending on the time of day and movements of people in the room. Its changing surface and colour give the impression that it is moving and evolving."
