In 2024, Lawrence Coulson celebrates 25 years since first showcasing his atmospheric brushwork with Castle Fine Art. Inspired in the outdoors and in the remarkable British landscapes, Coulson has had a long-standing career developing his techniques, bringing a serene and celestial feel to each artwork.
As part of the commemorative collection, 25 Years of Contemporary British Landscape, the artist was inspired by beautiful British locations from Cornwall to Scotland, and East Anglia. Focused on creating landscapes that evoke a sense of mood and atmosphere, Coulson explores both secluded woodland retreats and the tranquil hues of sunrises with his delicate painting style.
With bold use of colour, this collection showcases Lawrence’s profound connection to nature and his ability to evoke mood and atmosphere. The dramatic skies, rolling hills and a serene landscape in ‘There's No Hurry’ invites viewers to immerse themselves in nature and the emotional reminiscent and nostalgic feelings the original artwork evokes. The high level of detail and intricacy combined with the texture of the piece creates an astonishing statement piece.
“I see the beauty in in the simplest things, and that attention to detail is hopefully reflected in my work. Texture, the richness of colour and the way light hits elements of nature is what inspires me”.
A special focus on light and colour was placed in this original artwork to enhance the scale of the expansive horizons painted by the British artist. Featuring small figures in the distance, Lawrence adds a sense of scale that amplifies the impact of this artwork, drawing viewers in to connect on a more intimate level.
“My work focuses on contrast and the moments of hope and optimism shining through”.

Since joining our publisher in 1999, Lawrence has captivated audiences with his emotive landscapes, transporting viewers to serene vistas and inviting them to explore the beauty of the British countryside. Although he has experimented with new techniques and colour palettes, his style is instantly recognisable, evoking the calm and beauty of nature in each brushstroke.
Inspired by his local landscape, Lawrence's evocative paintings illustrate the power of nature. Fields, coastlines, woods and winding pathways are captured in exquisite detail, with the artist also rendering the beauty of natural phenomena such as sunrises, lightning, snow and fog.
