During 2024’s World Art Day, let's take a moment to revel in the beauty and profound impact of art on our lives and the world around us. As we immerse ourselves in the boundless realms of creativity, let's reflect on the power of art to transcend boundaries, ignite imaginations, and inspire positive change. The theme for this year’s celebration is "A Garden of Expression: Cultivating Community Through Art.”
World Art Day, established during the 40th session of UNESCO’s General Conference, stands as a global celebration aimed at fostering the development, dissemination, and appreciation of art. Every year on April 15th, World Art Day festivities serve to strengthen the ties between artistic creations and society, raise awareness about the diverse spectrum of artistic expressions, and underscore the role of artists in sustainable development.
Initiated by the International Association of Art (IAA), World Art Day is an international celebration of the Fine Arts, designed to raise awareness of creative endeavours worldwide. The IAA, established in 1954 as a collaborative effort with UNESCO, serves as a platform for advocating artistic freedoms and fostering solidarity among artists globally. First observed in 2012, the annual occasion pays tribute to the legacy of the legendary artist Leonardo Da Vinci, renowned for his masterpiece, the 'Mona Lisa'.
As we commemorate World Art Day, we honour the contributions of our artists, recognising their invaluable role in shaping our cultural landscape.
