This artwork is featured in Billy’s new book ‘The Accidental Artist’.
In this coveted 2021 instalment of the sell-out Born On A Rainy Day collection, we see Billy Connolly interpret a modern and traditional Christmas scene through his unique style. Available framed and unframed, this iconic set of two is displayed on elegant deckle-edged Aquarelle Arches-Torchon 300gsm paper and is a unique opportunity to acquire a themed set of Billy Connolly artworks alongside the release of his new autobiography Windswept & Interesting.
Here, the artist has deconstructed the traditional nativity scene and reduced it to clean silhouettes and shapes that represent the three wise men, baby Jesus and Star of Bethlehem. Coloured lines give each shape prominence and depth within the deceptively minimalist scene. Contrastingly, we see a more modern Christmas scene in the accompanying artwork represented through the silhouettes of a nuclear family overlapping with a Christmas tree. Both pieces are united through the red circle in the right-hand corner which can represent a star, sky, moon or any source if light according to the viewer's personal interpretation; each influenced by their own experience of Christmas traditions and scenes.
Unique due to the theme and coloured lines, which Billy usually keeps black and colours within, this rare release by the internationally acclaimed comedian and artist is the perfect way to add powerful contemporary artworks to your space with a festive sparkle.

The world-famous musician and comedian’s iconic artworks have no less impact than one of his legendary comedy sketches. The faceless figures possess an extraordinary self-awareness and humanity. Devoid of emotion or expression, their anonymity opens them up to individual interpretation, creating a unique bond with the viewer.
Featured by The Times and documentaries including Billy Connolly: It's Been a Pleasure, his minimalist drawings have been described as 'poignant', 'funny' and 'enigmatic' by critics.
