'Sleeping Beauty' was Walt Disney Studio's 16th feature film and was inspired visually by aspects of Medieval art and 20th century art deco designs, in particular by the tapestries on display at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York at the time. This vibrant animation cel features the characters King Hubert and King Stefan, the fathers of Phillip and Aurora, set against a backdrop of bold geometric designs emblematic of the style design of the film.
This cel or "celluloid" would have been used in the original production process after an animators' drawing was traced onto a sheet of transparent plastic and hand-painted in colour. Then projected via a multiplane camera onto a separately painted background, each cel - like this one - would be moved by hand according to the animating directors to create a minute yet crucial movement in the final film.
Now mounted and framed, this piece is the perfect way to add a sophisticated and historical touch of Disney magic to your home. Match with another production cel from our Vintage Disney collection to create a perfect pair

In 1995, we opened our first-ever gallery in Stratford-upon-Avon. With just one goal in mind - to make our art accessible to all - our fledgling company began to spread its roots.
Every piece of art is mounted, glazed or framed by hand, with our bespoke framing service selected by our creative department.
Our foundations are built on a passion for art, and many of our staff (and collectors!) have been with us from the very beginning.
