'The Fox and the Hound' was Walt Disney's 24th animated feature film and marked a milestone for the animating team. Not only was it the last film to be worked on by the remaining members of "Disney's Nine Old Men" but, it was also the first Disney film to be worked on by future directors Tim Burton and Brad Bird, who took over the film after the old animators retired. This beautifully coloured and composed scene features the character Tod, all grown up, as he encounters the beautiful Vixey; their bright orange fur standing out from the turquoise woodland background. 

This cel or "celluloid" would have been used in the original production process after the animators' drawing was traced onto a sheet of transparent plastic and hand-painted in colour. Then projected via a multiplane camera onto a separately painted background, each cel - like this one - would be moved by hand according to the animating directors to create a minute yet crucial movement in the final film.
