Inspired by legendary war poets Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon and Rupert Brooke, The Danger Tree uses augmented reality to expose the true heartbreak of World War One. By digitally stripping away the countless layers of paint, viewers are able to reveal the creative journey beneath and see the Great War re-imagined.
This piece tells the tale of Captain Charlie May, who before the war was a journalist for the Manchester Evening News. The pair unearthed his diaries in a local museum, with a particularly touching passage describing how the thought of not seeing his wife and baby again 'turns my bowels to water'. Just two weeks later, Charlie was killed at the Battle of the Somme.

Scarlett Raven is a contemporary British impressionist whose work is widely recognized for its emotional intensity and heavy texture. Through bold colour, dramatic paint application and vivid scenery, her textured landscape paintings have positioned her as one of the most exciting female impressionists in the UK today. With stylistic influences from Vincent van Gogh, Anselm Kiefer, Gustav Klimt and David Hockney, her emotive works are inspired by her deep personal connection with nature.
