On the 40th anniversary of the release of ‘Return of the Jedi’, the third instalment of the Star Wars series, Castle Fine Art is proud to present Revenge of the Jedi – The Lost Script; a unique collection of Robert Bailey original art alongside original script pages from the Star Wars film, ‘Revenge of the Jedi’, which we know today as ‘Return of the Jedi’. George Lucas changed the title just before release after he decided that a true Jedi should never seek revenge.
The series sold out online fast, so to be the first to find out about Robert's new releases, sign up to our mailing list here.
Robert is one of the few people to have been made a Lucasfilm-endorsed Star Wars artist, creating fantastically detailed pencil drawings of the beloved characters from the series. Lucas spotted Robert’s previous work and then invited him to work on the book Star Wars: Visions, which saw 30 artists create their own interpretations of characters and scenes. George bought many of Robert’s prints for both himself and cast and crew members.
All Robert Bailey’s Star Wars pieces are stamped with a copyright to Lucasfilms, showing their authenticity and approval by the company behind the series.
This collection is now sold out, but you can still shop from Robert’s full collection here.
The Revenge of the Jedi - The Lost Script collection from Robert Bailey sees his incredible art framed alongside a page from an original script.
It took two years to hunt down a copy of the ‘Revenge of the Jedi’ script, which has been verified as genuine, and Robert has illustrated scenes from a page of script in a series of 105 unique pencil drawings. The drawing and script page are paired together, then mounted and framed in black mount and placed under museum quality glass. Each drawing created by Robert captures the essence of the iconic scene and allows collectors to own a real piece of Star Wars history.
In this amazing collection of artworks, Robert Bailey has combined his own vision of the Star Wars universe with an original movie script to make a totally unique piece which fans and collectors won’t want to miss.
Featured art (L-R): 'An Assertion to Control' and 'Campfire Couple' by Robert Bailey; mixed media originals, £2,950 each.
Raised in Stoke-on-Trent, Robert moved to Canada at the age of 17 to become a photographer. After a varied career that included stints as a photo lab technician, advertising layout artist and journalist, he became a medical photographer. During this time, he published lithographs of World War II canvasses.
His work was noticed by Star Wars creator George Lucas, who trusts Robert to faithfully depict his cinematic vision.
Robert Is also a licenced Marvel and Star Wars artist, who has depicted iconic Spider-Man and Avengers scenes. Collectors of his Star Wars pieces include Harrison Ford, John Travolta, Tom Cruise, and the late Carrie Fisher. Robert’s art uses a method called hatching, whereby his closely-drawn parallel lines imply shade, tone and texture. The distance between the hatching marks determine how light or dark that area appears. Robert says about his art: “Only by practice can the dexterity of fine pencil work be kept up."
The relationship between art and film has a complex connection that stretches back to the dawn of cinema in the late 19th century. Captivating audiences and challenging norms, the two are tightly bound by their shared visual power, storytelling and use of both legacy techniques and new technology, meaning the notional bridge between the two mediums is regularly crossed. We explore the film-art crossover that has resulted in both still and moving masterpieces for over a century.
Ever-evolving, fantasy art is a fascinating genre that captures the artist’s imagination with the portrayal of magical worlds and mythical subjects. Avoiding abstract forms, it tends to lean towards naturalism like Nigel Humphries or Robert Bailey’s art or embrace graphic novel aesthetics like our Marvel artworks.
After last year’s sold-out collection Revenge of the Jedi – The Lost Script, Castle Fine Art is delighted to present the latest instalment The Empire Strikes Back – Part 1 in which Robert Bailey breathes vibrant life into the film’s script through his breathtaking pencil drawings.
Collected by celebrities including Harrison Ford, John Travolta and Tom Cruise, Robert's incredibly detailed original pencil drawings are the perfect addition to any Star Wars fan's collection.
