David Bowie and Amy Winehouse are two of the most legendary names in music and have been immortalised countless times over the years, but never quite like this. In the latest release from his Lost Lives//Split Personalities collection, Scottish contemporary artist Stuart McAlpine Miller brings the musicians to life through layers of Pop Art imagery for two new limited edition artworks that will add personality to your living space.
Bursting with colour, these hand-signed giclée prints are layered with imagery of some of the world's best-loved cartoon and comic characters, including Popeye and Catwoman. Stuart revealed the artworks during a visit to our state-of-the-art Mailbox gallery in Birmingham, where he filmed an exclusive video for our YouTube channel ahead of the release of the new issue of our magazine.
Stuart, who in 2018 followed in the footsteps of James McNeill Whistler, Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso by becoming an artist in residence at The Savoy in London, revealed that his art can be enjoyed by anyone. He adds: "They’re open to conversation. You don’t have to have any specific idea of what these paintings mean: if you enjoy them and get something out of them, that’s fantastic.”
Framed in a metallic grey and charcoal, these contemporary artworks also feature a unique printing design. Expertly recreated by our specialist atelier team, Stuart's original expansion of his painting onto the frame - which symbolises that life cannot be confined - has been captured in the limited edition prints. Stuart adds: "To publish it like that is fantastic and an original way to do it. I haven't seen any publisher do such a thing. These editions are highly unusual and original in this form."
Pop Art is one of the most collected genres in the world, and it's not hard to see why. Regularly breaking records at auction houses like Christie's and Sotheby's, works by legends like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Keith Haring have become more desirable than ever, selling for up to £105 million.
But starting your own collection doesn't have to break the bank. In our Pop Art collection, we've got original and limited edition artworks by some of the biggest names in the art industry. These include one of the founding fathers of the movement, James Francis Gill, along with Romero Britto, the Bisaillon Brothers and Domingo Zapata. British artist Paul Stephenson has also taken the art world by storm with his 'posthumous Warhols', which have been created using the artist's original acetates.

"What you see on the canvas is my makeup of ideas. They’re abstracted and confused, which is indicative of the world we live in."Stuart McAlpine Miller
