For 40 years, Washington Green has been at the forefront of fine art publishing.

A British brand with a global vision, Washington Green was founded in Birmingham in 1984 by Glyn Washington and Paul Green.

Glyn studied art, print and design at college before setting up his own business in the early 80s designing and manufacturing silkscreen prints for major art publishers across the UK.

At the time, Paul Green was a successful art dealer who had launched Halcyon Gallery at Birmingham New Street station, before going on to become the founder of Halcyon Fine Art Group. Today, Halcyon Gallery has locations on Bond Street and at Harrods in London, showcasing original art from modern masters, critically acclaimed living artists and promising new talent.

Together, they set up Washington Green’s first office in Birmingham’s creative quarter, Digbeth, in the mid-80s and used some of the finest materials and printing techniques from around the world to supply brand-new styles of framed prints to leading UK galleries and retailers.

Going on to exhibit at major international art shows, Washington Green became one of the most respected names in the publishing industry, supplying independent galleries across the world. As the business grew, it turned its focus to premium, limited edition, contemporary art, which it continues to specialise in today.

It has introduced many emerging artists and genres to the global commercial market for collectors to enjoy, including Robert Heindel – said to be one of Princess Diana’s favourite artists – and acclaimed cityscape artist Paul Kenton. It is also trusted and honoured to publish the art of global icons including Bob Dylan, Johnny Depp and Billy Connolly.

Today, Washington Green’s headquarters sit in the heart of Birmingham at the Mailbox, whilst the publishing, framing and distribution teams are based in the city’s industrial hub, Erdington. Having published over 1 million prints and 10,000 editions, the brand continues to innovate with quality, creativity and style four decades on.

Washington Green’s artists are the cornerstone of its success. The team continues to work alongside artists to truly translate their original art into collectable prints and sculpture, providing support, creative direction and a wealth of experience in fine art publishing.

It’s this experience, and trusted relationship with the artist, that guarantees the faithful reproduction of materials, be it oils, watercolours, metals or wood, into print and sculpture editions of exceptional quality.

For Washington Green, printmaking is an artform in itself, with detail at its core. The team uses a range of traditional techniques, including lithography, silkscreen and giclée, before mounting and framing each individual piece by hand using the finest materials to complement the artwork.
