Named after the iconic film of the same name, this vibrant and playful artwork depicts the one and only Kermit The Frog from The Muppets whose joyous expression and spikey collar is perfectly captured by Robert Oxley's jagged strokes of paint. On interpreting this character from pop culture, renowned animal artist Robert Oxley said: “I wanted to portray a huge, happy, ecstatic smile, and a joyful expression”.
Harnessing five individual personalities from The Muppets, the Spring 2022 collection Ensemble, sees wildlife artist Robert Oxley depart from his usual subject matter and blow our minds by using his unique impressionistic style to represent and explore a “much-loved part of [his] childhood“. Created in the 1950s, Jim Henson's Muppets have since been adapted into a TV series, numerous theatrical films, and a world-wide brand, not to mention a key presence in most of our childhoods. This, however, if the first time that the hilarious ensemble has been captured with Robert's psychdelic style; bringing a new vibrancy and life to the characters.

The artist
Robert Oxley
As a child, Robert Oxley spent his hours roaming the forests around a north-east coalmining village, dreaming of becoming a zookeeper. Today, the lions, tigers and elephants who roamed his imagination are given life in his dazzling wildlife paintings. Immersing himself in pop surrealism, Oxley presents viewers with what he calls 'psychedelic natural history'.
Oxley's affinity with nature is evident in every instinctive brushstroke. He began his art career by painting his school friend's denim jackets with the logos of their favourite heavy metal bands. This rock 'n' roll ethos can be seen in his art, with its loose paintwork and free attitude, which makes it so popular with his many collectors.
