An image of intense movement and fury, Richard Hambleton's painting 'Tribeca Rider' was painted shortly before his withdrawal from the limelight of the art world. The world-famous artist, whose immense dedication to his art saw him live between the highest circles of the art world and depths of poverty, exchanged this artwork for food in the restaurant in Tribeca where he ate daily. Thrown between these two extremes, the artist’s turbulent life and state of mind can also be seen in the highly emotional painting of the Tribeca rider; grappling with the violence of his horse, barely visible through the gestures of frenetic movement.
This vibrant orange trial proof silkscreen is one of only 22 different colour-ways, framed in satin black pine and spruce which beautifully contrasts the rawness of Hambleton’s brush strokes and emotive swathes of paint. Exclusive to Castle Fine Art, the limited edition artwork has been created from the original in the Hambleton archive to continue his legacy and each silkscreen bears the printed impression of Richard Hambleton’s signature on the reverse.

Remembered as the 'godfather of street art', Richard Hambleton (aka Shadowman) emerged alongside Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat in New York's underground art scene in the 1980s. Once outselling his peers and begged by Andy Warhol to sit for a portrait, he lost himself in his art and his tragic story was shelved in the archives of art history. Until now. Our Shadowman limited edition collection sheds light on the genius of the man who lived his life in the shadows, inspiring contemporary artists like Banksy and Blek le Rat.
In 1995, we opened our first-ever gallery in Stratford-upon-Avon. With just one goal in mind - to make our art accessible to all - our fledgling company began to spread its roots.
Every piece of art is mounted, glazed or framed by hand, with our bespoke framing service selected by our creative department.
