Steve Winterburn, the esteemed master of bronze casting, has unlocked the closely guarded secrets of foundrymen to perfect age-old techniques in mold-making and the manipulation of molten bronze.
Sculpted by a Yorkshire-based artist, the essence of a turtle is capture in ‘Waiting for Spring’. A breathtaking celebration of movement and the grace of marine life, the meticulously detailed turtle is encased within a flawless stainless steel sphere. The turtle, designed to spin within the sphere, brings the sculpture to life, conveying the effortless glide of a turtle through the ocean. The interactive nature of the sculpture invites the viewers to appreciate the dynamic and graceful beauty of the turtle’s journey.
Deeply personal to Steve, who has spent years diving with turtles across the world, the firsthand encounters have allowed the sculptor to convey the essence of the remarkable creatures with an unmatched authenticity. By studying their movements and experiencing their serene presence in their natural habitat, the striking composition captures their elegance with a sense of fluidity and freedom.
This sculpture received an overwhelmingly positive response and was exhibited at Art Miami in 2024. Largely heralded as the most important week for contemporary art in the United States, this event showcases some of the most important works from the 20th and 21st centuries.
A testament to Winterburn’s mastery of bronze as a medium and his passion for wildlife, the sculptor’s ability to merge realism with movement has resulted in a unique creation.
In his own family-run foundry, Steve harnesses the timeless medium, bronze, which he reveres as 'eternal as diamonds'. Each step of the process is executed by hand at the foundry, from mold-making to finishing touches, ensuring the utmost authenticity and quality.

By applying the closely guarded secrets of foundrymen to master age-old techniques in mould-making and the manipulation of molten bronze, Steve’s incredibly detailed bronze sculptures are the result of 20 years of experimentation. With Steve’s mastery of sculpture and bronze came a unique fusion of artist and artisan, sculpting, casting and finishing each unique sculpture by hand in his family run foundry, Yorkshire Fine Arts. Every stage of their process is meticulously carried out by hand on site, ensuring each piece is distinct in its creation.
Steve Winterburn's legendary sculptures feature in public installations, galleries, and collectors' homes across the nation. From heart-warming and authentic memorials to sports legends in key stadiums, to ferocious animal sculptures inspired by his first-hand experiences with wildlife conservation around the world for over 10 years. Steve's art fuses the work of artist and artisan as he runs his own bronze-casting studio that calls upon thousand-year old techniques from foundrymen to create incredibly detailed bronze artworks.
