Inspired by a visit to the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley, Bob Barker pointed his camera when looking over the canal imagining a new piece of work. The scene took Barker back in time; he says it was like ‘dropping back into my childhood with cobbled streets, mill houses, trying on flat caps, eating fish and chips on a bench’.
Influenced by the Yorkshire mill towns that shaped his youth, the artist is known for his ‘Northern Impressionism’ style, and he has continued this with his latest limited-edition artwork. Depicting touching childhood, family and romantic scenes, his nostalgic and charming artworks feature his signature neutral palette of greys with splashes of vibrant colour and a unique inner glow created by the manipulation of light and shadow.
In ‘Across the Cut’, Barker strayed from his usual colour palette slightly and added black and white transparent glazes to let the muted sepia tones shine through. He draws from his own life experiences to add a new intimacy and dimension to this signed limited-edition.
This piece is hand-signed giclée on canvas board. Read more about Bob Barker's latest release here or view all his artwork here.
