Well-loved artist Bob Barker is known for his heartwarming depictions of love, family and childhood. His new giclée on canvas illustrates his signature ‘Northern Impressionism’ style, which contrasts light and shadow with an inner glow inspired by the mill towns of his youth.
There are two ways this picture can be viewed. Bob has a fond memory of his grandma, who used to swear “every bloody pillar, every bloody post” about every dog they ever had, which dog owners may be able to relate to! The second is the old man walking his dog, gazing over the scene of his youth and his military past. As the infantry call ‘The Last Post’ plays in his head, the mills and his memories fade away.
Bob adds: “Are we looking at his memories, or is this about the dog?”

Inspired by the Yorkshire mill towns that shaped his youth, Bob is known for his ‘Northern Impressionism’ style. Depicting touching childhood, family and romantic scenes, his nostalgic artworks feature a neutral palette of greys and browns with splashes of vibrant colour and a unique inner glow created by the manipulation of light and shadow.
In 1995, we opened our first-ever gallery in Stratford-upon-Avon. With just one goal in mind - to make our art accessible to all - our fledgling company began to spread its roots.
Every piece of art is mounted, glazed or framed by hand, with our bespoke framing service selected by our creative department.
Our foundations are built on a passion for art, and many of our staff (and collectors!) have been with us from the very beginning.
Our dedicated team of art consultants is on hand to offer you tailored advice.
