Created during the first UK lockdown, Nic Joly was inspired by the renewed importance of family to depart from his satirical work and revisit his popular title 'The Art Of Making Love'. In 'All You Need' Nic highlights the love and support we have experienced during these dark times.
The wooden letters, which he first paints white, boast over 40 layers of hand-dripped paint that spent around three weeks on the artist's floor collecting colour and creating a brightness he hopes will light up people's homes. What's more, each set of scaffolding took Nic nearly four days to complete from laser cutting, gluing, painting, spraying to painting again.
Although the artist admits that the national lockdown provided him with an unprecedented amount of time to work, the immensity and detail of his process reminds us that this piece truly was a labour of love.

What began as Nic Joly's hobby has transformed into a passion for sculpting minute depictions of everyday life. The British artist's 3D wall sculptures tackle topics like love, sex, mental health and war in a touching and humorous way.
In 2024, we celebrated Nic Joly’s tenth anniversary with Castle Fine Art and remembered the intricate details tell stories of moments lived, emotions felt, and a journey embarked upon. As Nic reflects on the last decade and his past creations, the spirit of experimentation and the passion for self-expression is a reminder that Nic's artwork is an extension of him and the thoughtful, considered miniature works he creates. Nic's 2024 collection, The Next Chapter, references Nic’s evolving creative journey with his progressive techniques, unexplored themes, and sentiments yet to be unravelled and miniaturised. With renewed determination, Nic is ready to embark on The Next Chapter of his artistic journey.
