Hand-Signed Mixed Media Oil on Glass Unique by Richard Rowan.

A blend of Giclée printed foreground with meticulously hand-painted background, ‘A Tale To Be Told II’ is a vibrant unique mixed media artwork inspired by the wild, ever-changing beauty of Loch Hourn.

Evoking a profound sense of calm due to the vastness, the artwork portrays a moment of reflection and contemplation.

Capturing the unique beauty of a place that feels completely untouched by time, this unique artwork is a mesmerising tribute to the many incredible vistas of nature and the changing views possible in just one spot with the passing of time and light.

With magical green hues, the serene landscape evokes a sense of grandiosity and calm, highlighted by its reflection in the water.

A pioneer of reverse painting on glass Richard Rowan has created an atmospheric scene that allows us to escape from everyday life and take notice of the changing possibilities of nature. The sky takes full stage, framed by the detailed silhouette of the mountains with an incredible gradience of colour and depth.

While working on this collection of unique artworks, Rowan listened to August Wilhelmsson’s album "Transfixed,” which profoundly influenced the ambiance of the pieces.

Produced in high-quality giclée on glass, Rowan's silhouetted foreground has been reverse printed in layers onto glass, perfectly reflecting the incredible techniques used in his original artwork, and returned to his London studio. Rowan has meticulously hand-painted each vista using his reverse painted layering technique, often involving several coatings of paint to be applied, taken away, and built in complex blended layers to create a completely unique image with incredible depth and photorealism.

Frequently asked questions

Can I order to collect in a gallery?

At checkout, you'll have the option to have your order delivered to your home or to collect it from one of our galleries across the UK. For more information on delivery, visit our delivery page here.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, Castle Fine Art is based in the UK, but we ship internationally. All of our international orders are delivered via DHL, you can find out more here.

How is my artwork packaged?

To ensure a secure transit, every artwork is handled with utmost care. We take precautionary measures by using foam around the piece for added safety during transportation, and then the artwork(s) are packaged in double-walled, reinforced cardboard boxes that offer superior protection. All of this ensures that your artwork arrives safely.

How long will my order take to arrive?

Most artwork orders will need to be professionally mounted and framed before being dispatched, so delivery can take up to four weeks from the date you placed your order, but we do strive to deliver your order as soon as we can. Books and gift cards are delivered within 2-3 working days. Please note, if multiple artworks are purchased within the same order, they may be delivered separately for efficient delivery. Find out more here.

How will I receive my certificate of authenticity?

All our limited edition artwork has a certificate of authenticity which will be included in your order alongside your artwork.

I'm an artist, how can I submit my art?

We are committed to discovering and developing talented, creative artists who love contemporary art as much as we do. Find out how to submit your art here.

Is my art insured?

Artwork is one of the few insurable items that is likely to appreciate in value over time, so it is important that you are protected by a specialist policy that can accommodate its true worth. Find out about your options here.

Is the artwork framed and ready to hang?

All our framed artworks arrive ready to hang, ensuring a hassle-free setup. Simply unbox, choose your perfect spot and enjoy its beauty instantly.

Is the artwork hand-signed?

The majority of our originals and limited editions are hand signed by the artist themselves. On some occasions where we have limited edition sculptures, this is hand written into the mould before production. If you're unsure, please contact us.

What happens after I order?

Once you've completed your purchase, a confirmation receipt will be sent via email. You will also receive a follow-up phone call from one of our art consultants to provide confirmation, finalise the details of your preferred delivery method and answer any further questions you may have.

What is the difference between a limited edition and an original?

An original work of art is a one-off piece - painting, sculpture, mixed media - which is made by the artist themselves. When you buy an original piece of work, it comes with the knowledge that you own something incredibly special; almost a piece of the creator themselves. A limited edition is a translation of an original piece and there is a fixed number of these made. The piece will be signed by the artist, and the edition number will show you which number in the series you have purchased. Read more about the different types of art we sell here.

Will you install my art?

We do offer an installation service should you need assistance. You can contact our art consultants for further information here. Please note that this is currently only available in mainland UK.

Reverse painting

The ground-breaking contemporary glass painter meticulously paints by hand in oils on the opposite side of the glass. Building layers in reverse, starting with the foreground and finer details before working in several layers to the background, is a technique Richard has trailblazed for over 15 years.

About

Richard Rowan

From the Icelandic wilderness to the fiery horizons of Thailand and towering mountains of Norway to spectacular Scotland, his atmospheric scenes allow viewers to escape from everyday life, creating a sense of intrigue in any living space. Richard is the only artist to be creating art in this style, and his incredible landscapes are so detailed that they are often mistaken for photographs, when in fact each one has been meticulously painted by hand using his reverse painting technique.

As the only fine artist successfully creating artworks in this style, Richard has become a part of the history of the glass art form, which dates back to Roman times and can also be seen in the Gothic period. Unlike canvas, glass interacts with the light, bringing his works to sparkling life.
