Being at the forefront of his technique, Richard Rowan’s original artworks are detailed with his characteristic photographic realism, illustrating the power of nature. The landscapes are reverse painted in layers on to the glass, which allows him to achieve the microscopic detail and preserve the vibrant colours. On each of Richard's original artworks is a transparent viewing panel to allow collectors to see the process behind their creation.

An original work of art is a one-off piece - painting, sculpture, mixed media - which is made by the artist themselves. When you buy an original piece of work, it comes with the knowledge that you own something incredibly special; almost a piece of the creator themselves. A limited edition is a translation of an original piece and there is a fixed number of these made. The piece will be signed by the artist, and the edition number will show you which number in the series you have purchased. Read more about the different types of art we sell here.

On each of Richard Rowan’s original artworks is a viewing panel to allow collectors to see the incredible reverse painting process behind their creation.
Rowan is the founder of his ‘reverse painting’ on glass medium and a true pioneer of his artistic endeavours. Beginning with the foreground and adding detail in layers, this technique requires great concentration and skill. By using glass as a canvas for his paintings, Richard creates a much smoother gradient of colour and a broader spectrum of shades.
You'll notice that the signature appears backwards when viewing the artwork from the front, as he signs the artwork on the side of the glass where he paints.
From the Icelandic wilderness to the fiery horizons of Thailand and towering mountains of Norway to spectacular Scotland, his atmospheric scenes allow viewers to escape from everyday life, creating a sense of intrigue in any living space. Richard is the only artist to be creating art in this style, and his incredible landscapes are so detailed that they are often mistaken for photographs, when in fact each one has been meticulously painted by hand using his reverse painting technique.
As the only fine artist successfully creating artworks in this style, Richard has become a part of the history of the glass art form, which dates back to Roman times and can also be seen in the Gothic period. Unlike canvas, glass interacts with the light, bringing his works to sparkling life.
In 1995, we opened our first-ever gallery in Stratford-upon-Avon. With just one goal in mind - to make our art accessible to all - our fledgling company began to spread its roots.
Every piece of art is mounted, glazed or framed by hand, with our bespoke framing service selected by our creative department.
Our foundations are built on a passion for art, and many of our staff (and collectors!) have been with us from the very beginning.
