We didn't know whether to be impressed or insanely jealous when Paul Kenton sent us some photographs of his purpose-built studio (to be honest, it's probably a bit of both). Nestled inside an old gasworks that was built in 1868, the awe-inspiring artspace is the perfect setting for the cityscape painter to create his dazzling artworks.
“It is a dream come true for me to have a studio which I designed to paint in,” the artist reveals. “I have kept the integrity of the building, leaving the old features and incorporating the old with the new.”
Paul worked hard to retain the building's original character. The stained glass window was created by a master craftsman named Jeff Harland, and Paul designed the industrial steelwork and concrete floor while keeping the original 19th century brick walls. He adds: “We came up with the exploded wheel idea together. It looks fantastic when the morning light streams through the different-coloured glass.”
