The artwork we sell at Castle Fine Art - Originals and Limited Editions

Art is a learning curve, and our skilled and knowledgeable art consultants have crafted their expertise over time. With an ever-expanding portfolio of limited edition artworks, original pieces and sculptures, we certainly keep them on their toes! Learning more about our art couldn't be easier, it's just a question of finding the right piece for you. To make this easier, here's our nifty guide to the types of artwork we sell.

What is an original artwork?

An original work of art is a one-off piece - painting, sculpture, mixed media - which is made by the artist themselves. When you buy an original piece of work, it comes with the knowledge that you own something incredibly special; almost a piece of the creator themselves. You can see many of our artists creating original work on our YouTube channel.

We have a varied selection of original art available to purchase on our website, but because pieces are highly sought-after and sell out quickly, it's not always possible to put them on our website. If you're interested in our full portfolio, you can visit one of our galleries nationwide, or get in touch with an art consultant here.

What is a limited edition?

A limited edition is a translation of an original piece and, as the name suggests, there is a fixed number of pieces of art made. The piece will be hand-signed by the artist, and the edition number on it will show you which number in the series you have purchased. For example, a piece numbered 15/75 will be the 15th piece made in an edition of 75.

From silkscreens to giclées, our highly-skilled atelier team create these hand-embellished artworks which are difficult to distinguish from the original piece.

SHOP LIMITED EDITION ARTWORK

What is a time-limited edition?

A time-limited edition is similar to a limited edition explained above, but instead of the piece being limited to a specific number of editions, it is only available for a limited amount of time. This means that anyone who purchases the piece within a specific time period will receive their artwork, but the size of the edition won't be known until the time period ends.

In Summer 2023, Castle Fine Art sold the time-limited edition of Johnny Depp's self-portrait 'Five', which was on sale for 13 days before the edition closed.

So that's a brief overview of the different types of artwork we sell at Castle Fine Art. Our knowledgeable online and gallery art consultants are happy to offer help and advice should you wish to discuss your requirements.

All about silkscreens

09/01/2023

Silk-screening, or serigraphy as it's also known, is a time-honoured artisan technique that transforms raw materials into exquisite, hand-pulled works of art. Rooted in centuries of tradition, using a finely stretched mesh or screen (hence the name), silk-screening is a meticulous layering process which demands precision, patience, and the expertise of highly skilled printmakers.
